September 18, 2008 -- For over 250 years Savannah has thrived off the river. Settled in 1733 by General Oglethorpe, the city has prospered from the trade off the Savannah River.

The River Street Riverboat Company offers a unique viewing of Savannah's historic harbor and port. Since 1991, the company has been providing a one of a kind experience. The newest addition, the 600 passenger Savannah River Queen and her sister ship, the 600 passengers Georgia Queen dock and board a mere block away from the spot Oglethrope is thought to have landed when he founded Savannah. Both vessels are reminders of a bygone era and replicas of those that once operated along the East Coast Rivers.

Sailing year-round, the company offers a wide variety of cruise options. The most popular is a daily Narrated Sightseeing Cruise featuring both historic and present day Savannah, including: the Georgia Port, the second largest port on the east coast, Old Fort Jackson and the statue of the waving girl, architectural history and close up views of popular River Street put the finishing touches on the cruise.

Onboard the Dinner and Entertainment Cruise guests can relax and enjoy a superb buffet that is prepared fresh daily. After dinner, guests are encouraged to stroll the decks and enjoy the entertainment provided on the ship.

Other cruise options include the Sunday Brunch Cruise, Saturday Luncheon Cruise, the romantic Moonlight Entertainment Cruise, Monday night Gospel Entertainment Cruise, and back by popular demand, the Murder Afloat Mystery Cruise.

This is a relaxing and effortless way to see Savannah. Snacks, prepared onboard at the Riverboat Snack Shop, as well as cash bar and drinks are available onboard.

Both the Savannah River Queen and the Georgia Queen are available for private parties, conventions, meetings, weddings, or any special occasion ranging from themed cruises to reunions. A qualified planning assistant can help coordinate any event.

Beginning its 16th year of operation, River Street Riverboat Company has become a fixture along Savannah's Historic Waterfront. Its owner, Captain Jonathan Claughton, brings with him many years of experience operating stern-wheel type vessels. Originally from---, the Claughton family operated two similar riverboats in Nashville, Tennessee for 29 years before bringing the tradition to Savannah.

The Savannah River Street Riverboat Company has been a mainstay along Savannah's historic waterfront for over a decade. The company prides itself in bringing the grandeur of river boating back to the southeastern United States.

Tickets for any of these extraordinary cruises can be purchased at the Riverboat Ticket Office located at 9 East River Street.
